Why must the edition be recorded?
NEC publishes multiple contract families and editions. Record the exact form, edition, amendments and selected options in the document index before summarising issues.
| Field | Why it matters | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Contract family | Identifies the form | Tender contents |
| Edition | Controls terminology | Cover or amendment |
| Options | Changes obligations | Completed schedule |
| Scope | Defines work | Scope document |
| Data | Adds project particulars | Contract data |

Which issues are commonly routed for review?
Route programme, notice, payment, compensation, defects, insurance, liability, design responsibility and termination issues to the appropriate contracts or legal adviser. The register should identify the issue, not make the legal conclusion.

How should the result be used?
Use the register to assign questions, qualifications and approval actions. It does not replace the licensed contract, the project-specific amendments or legal advice.
Common questions
What else should the bid team know?
Is this legal advice?
This is document support, not legal advice. A qualified contracts or legal adviser must review the applicable contract and tender position.
Can a register decide whether a clause is fair?
No. It identifies the text, issue, owner and proposed question. A qualified adviser decides the legal or contractual position.
Should the whole contract be sent through the form?
Send a document index and a description of the review needed first. Use a secure, agreed channel for confidential contract files.
